Honorable mention. New York 2009
Competition entry for the redevelopment of the High Bridge over the Harlem River in New York to a center for art and culture. Presenting a process rather than a plug & play solution, we propose the bridge and its immediate surroundings to become a social construction site.
Positioned within the interstitial space of a network of rivaling social enclaves, the bridge offers neutral ground for interaction. By adding a crane and a barge to the bridge we provide the basic infrastructure needed for the gradual growth and establishment of a multicultural art & meeting platform, nurtured to maturity by a growing community of users. The conceptual proposal addresses the historical, social and political context of the High Bridge and highlights the potential value of the bridge as a connector and a meeting point at the same time.
